The Royal Halls wasn’t always The Royal Halls. After existing in the world of indie rock bands from the start of my musical journey, I started writing songs that were just for “me” when I found myself no longer in a band, and in the middle of a lot of major life changes. The goal was to just write the best songs I could, and not for any additional purpose.
Between 2005 and 2008, I had enough to record an album, and recruiting Brennan, Jeremy thompson and Justin Michau, I recorded “Greetings & Partings” in my basement, which felt like a major achievement. We played out as “The Justin Reynolds Band”, then adding Ryan Mcclurg on bass, and accasionally Anthony Hoisington on keys, and the songs always had such a great vibe when we played. It was exciting.
In 2010, we recorded another batch of songs for an album called “When the Lights Go Out”, played some more shows, and just kept things rolling”.
Fast forwarding through many more life changes, and the desire to make this project more collaborative, rather than a solo act, led Brennan and I to work with Justin and Ryan on forming this into a band, with a name much better than my own. Enter The Royal Halls.
We played some of the best shows during that time, and even though we lost some momentum over the years, 2018 was the year we decided to take the best songs from each previous project, and properly record them as a complete work that we would all be proud of. Welcome “Center of the Frame”, and a signing to Old Bear Records.
We brought in Pete Metzler, while Brennan moved to guitar, and now as a 5 piece, are stronger than ever. “Troubled Love” is our latest release that we are immensely proud of.
